Wood expertise
In Valais and the Alps, wood is subjected to extreme conditions: intense UV in summer, frost in winter, freeze-thaw cycles, moisture from snowmelt. An untreated chalet cracks, blackens and deteriorates within 5 years.
A properly done treatment — professional-quality stain, thorough substrate preparation — protects your investment for 8 to 12 years depending on the product and exposure.
Our approach
Identifying wood species (spruce, larch, fir, Douglas), condition of existing stain, risk areas (corners, soffits, water accumulation zones). This step is never skipped.
Degreasing, mechanical brushing of friable parts, sanding or sandblasting depending on condition. Application of a fungicide preservative if necessary. Without thorough preparation, the stain will not adhere durably.
Transparent or wood-tone stain to enhance the material, opaque stain to change appearance, oil for terraces and high-contact areas, saturator for hardwoods used outdoors. We advise you before you buy.
1 primer coat, 2 to 3 finish coats depending on the product and exposure. Applied by brush (for penetration) or roller on large surfaces. Each coat is given the correct drying time.
Final coverage check, verification of corners and overhangs. We leave you the product references and maintenance advice to maximise durability between applications.

Frequently asked questions
Stain is a penetrating product that protects the wood while letting the natural material show through. It allows the wood to breathe (microporous), which is essential in the mountains to allow moisture to escape. Opaque paint conceals the wood, ideal for a change of appearance or for very damaged wood. Both have their use — we advise you on site after assessment.
In Valais and the mountains, between 5 and 8 years for very exposed facades (south, west), and up to 10-12 years for sheltered facades. Regular light maintenance (1 coat every 5 years) costs far less than a complete rehabilitation every 15 years.
Spring (April-June) and early autumn (August-September) are ideal: mild temperatures, less rain. Temperatures between 8°C and 30°C are required, with no frost risk within 24h of application. Summer at high altitude can be too hot and cause the product to dry too quickly.
No, not directly. Stain cannot be applied over opaque paint — the old paint must be stripped back to bare wood first, then the stain applied. If your chalet has been painted before, we continue with paint for future maintenance. This is why we assess the substrate before recommending a product.
